Challenge 4.
Our next challenge for May 2016. Thomas & I will be running the Leeds Half Marathon on the 08th May 2016, continuing to raise money for Anne's chosen charity.
ANNE IS ONE OF THE LUCKY 5% SURVIVING A SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST IN 2011.
This will be our fourth challenge raising money and awareness for the "Arrhythmia Alliance"and their appeal "Restart the Heart" with the aim of making more Automatic External Defibrillators (AED) available across the UK.
As a family we are extremely grateful for the professionals who came forward to "Restart my wife's Heart" when she suffered a "Sudden Cardiac Arrest" as we left the Take That Concert in Manchester in June 2011.
After a week in Intensive Care in Manchester Royal Infirmary and another week in the Coronary Care Unit, followed by an operation to fit an "ICD" (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) Anne returned home and is now back to normal ....or as normal as she can be !?
Anne's ICD is also monitored remotely by the Manchester Heart Centre through a wireless modem........amazing technology !

Until this happened we had no idea that Sudden Cardiac Arrest is;-
* The number one killer in the UK
* 100,000 people every year in the UK do not survive a SCA...thats 250 people per day
* SCA can strike anyone, at any time, anywhere, without warning.
* SCA is different from a Heart Attack. SCA is caused by an electrical problem in the heart.
* CPR alone is not enough to save the life of someone who is in Cardiac Arrest. The rate of survival increases from 5% to 50% if CPR is complemented by the use of an electric shock from a Defibrillator.
**** LESS THAN 5% OF PATIENTS SURVICE A SCA - this number can be improved if Automatic External Defibrillators are more widely available.
The "Arrhythmia Alliance" Heart Charity.....have the following aims;-
- To raise awareness of cardiac arrhythmias
- To improve diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmias
- To improve treatment of cardiac arrhythmias
- To improve quality of life for people with cardiac arrhythmias
