My story
Updated April 2012
Joey Evans was born on May 6th 2010 in Glasgow. He had a very rare malformation of a vein within his head, called the Vein of Galen. This meant that his life was always destined to be a fight - a fight he met head on throughout his five days with us.
On the 4 November 2011 despite it previously being understood as a sporadic condition we very sadly lost our second son at 33 weeks pregnancy to the same condition.
Since May 2010 we have found a few ways of remembering Joey in a positive way and will continue to remember Joey and Baby Evans by raising funds for Yorkhill Children's Foundation with the fantastic help and support of all of our friends and family.
Although we feel great sadness at the loss of Joey and Baby Evans, the time we spent with Joey changed our lives for ever - in the most positive way. The skill and expertise of all involved in his care at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children (Yorkhill) in Glasgow was beyond any expectations. However, it was the dedication, determination, care and compassion of everyone we met there that astonished us even more.
The exemplary way in which Joey was cared for at Yorkhill means that we can both approach the future certain that everything that could be done for Joey was done. It is hard for us to show enough gratitude to the people that helped our son, but we have pledged to work hard to ensure that the wonderful people at Yorkhill can continue to help families like us.
