Story
In the summer of 2011 I spent six weeks as a Lifeline Volunteer in the rainforest island of Dominica. Lifeline are involved with an organisation called Life Goes On, who support families coping with HIV. Just before I left the Dominica I had the privilege of meeting a six year old boy named Joseph (not his real name), and decided to assist in his schooling and nutrition by sponsoring him on a regular basis.
Both Joseph’s parents live with HIV. He lives with his Dad, sister and older brother in very poor conditions in a fishing village. His mother is in hospital overseas and has been for some months now having treatment for AIDS related complications. Joseph is not infected with HIV, thankfully his mother took her medication during the pregnancy, however he is affected by HIV. By the time he is an adult he will probably be alone... one brother has already passed away. Their housing situation is dire, the rented house is leaking badly and the hurricane season approaches.
The family have a chance to have a new prefab house built for them, however to be eligible for this they must finish paying for the land. They have to raise £1000. The parents are desperate for help as they want to be sure that the children have a secure roof over their heads as they face the uncertain future. It is my intention that the money I raise via sponsorship through the London 10k run will be donated to Lifeline Ministries to be utilised specifically for Joseph’s family.
Thank you for your support.
