BUPA London 10,000 2012 · 27 May 2012 ·

We plant urban trees in parks, streets, schools and housing estates across the UK, as well as internationally, revitalising these areas and improving the lives of the people who live in them. We strengthen communities through volunteering opportunities and inspire children to grow and eat good food.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I don't do many charity events but Trees for Cities is a really special organisation which deserves support beyond that which I have attempted to give for a number of years through the medium of both dance* and running.

Trees for Cities appeal to me because they are doing something that is very simple to grasp (tree planting and greening initiatives in urban areas, for the immediate benefit of urban areas), and one that has an immediate, positive impact on the environment for a huge number of people. This is achieved through a combination of planting, teaching and campaigning.

This year alone, TFC have planted a 12,000 tree woodland in Thamesmead, Redbridge, 100 standard trees in Coldharbour and Clapham, an orchard in Birmingham, 1,000 tress in Brighton…

If you feel this is a little SE-UK centric, TfC have also been expanded programmes to Bolivia, Kenya and Peru. I could waffle on further, but they explain the charity in a far better way themselves here http://www.treesforcities.org/

My role here is to raise money for TfC by taking part in the BUPA 10k run in London on 27th May and also the traditional TreeaAthlon in Battersea Park in September.

I would really appreciate it if you could help by making a donation - and even better by mentioning this to someone else to give them a chance to help to make our cities better places to live.

thanks,

William.

* term used under artistic licence.
