Story

Congratulations to the Merton Metropolitan Police Team - worthy winners of the Wimbledon Village Police Safer Neighbourhoods Team's Annual Charity Tug of War held on Sunday 4 September 2011 at the Wimbledon & Putney Commons Stables Open Day!

We take this opportunity to extend our sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone who has donated thus far, not least the 7 participating teams: Emmanuel Church, London Ambulance Service (winners in 2011), the Wimbledon Taxi Pumas, Peaches Hair Salon, Rosslyn Park RFC Nomads, the Royal Yeomanry TA (Putney), and the Merton Met Police Team for not only putting on a great show but their commitment, community spirit and donor generosity in helping us to raise funds for Hounds for Heroes (Registered Charity No. 1134359) which provides specially trained Assistance Dogs to injured and disabled men and women from the UK armed forces and Civilian Emergency Services: http://www.houndsforheroes.com/ .

Undeterred by the rain and wind, participants in all teams remained undaunted and demonstrated the best of British character and commitment in the face of adversity [opposing teams and the weather] and battled through the elements in true sporting fashion.

After winning the first Tug of War in 2007, determination, and real team effort and skill, ensured a spectacular return to victory for Merton Police against Emmanuel Church in the Final!

Unfortunately, and not helped by the rain, we still fall well short of the target we had hoped to achieve to help provide and train an Assistance Dog. Therefore, this web page will remain open for a while longer. We welcome all donations - no matter how small - to assist the Charity in its good work and train and provide more Assistance Dogs for the many needy recipients awaiting help!

Please help us to help Hounds for Heroes by spreading the word and encouraging family, friends, colleagues and businesses to donate online. We want to do better and believe that Together We Can!
