Having started in September 2011, 31 Men in the School and 3 Dons are attempting to cycle, run, swim and row the distance from Winchester College to Leh, the regional capital of Ladakh in Northern India. A total journey of 10,540km by road and 294km by sea which must be fitted in around academic and other sporting commitments. As of 3 Dec 11, the team have completed 4151km of the land journey and 244km of the sea track.
The aim of the event is to raise awareness of the Lotus Flower Trust, a charity that works with deprived children in India, and more specifically to raise money in order to construct an extension to the Sabu Ayu Nunnery. The nunnery will become home to young women who are either homeless, orphaned or unable to remain in the family home. The nunnery will become the centre of learning for Tibetan Buddhism for women in Ladakh
The team will travel to Ladakh in Aug 2012 to work on the project site and then make an attempt to climb Stok Kangri (6157m). It will be a very challenging but hugely rewarding expedition. The team must raise £50,000 for the Lotus Flower Trust to enable the build to take place. The team will be meeting the cost of the trip themselves, so every penny raised will directly benefit the nuns. Several boys have set up their own Just Giving Pages to raise funds for the project.
