My story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Running the London Marathon is one of my dreams! I'm not that type of person who loves running, however, I have been doing it for years with the aim to improve my health and stay fit. I was very weak when I was a kid and had to see the doctor almost every week. My grandma didn't expect that I could grow up. At the age of 12, I was sick of being sick and started running and climbing mountains so as to improve my health. Years later, I saw the smiles instead of worrying on my mom's face!

With the encouragement and great support of my ex-colleagues in Sydney, I did a few races in Syd. My ex-colleagues registered me as part of their team for the BRW Corporate Triathlon even though I could not swim at all! In less than a month, I learnt freestyle and backstroke and put in every effort to make sure I could swim 400m in the Sydney Harbour. Luckily I crawled back to the seawall of Sydney Harbour safely and my individual place ranked 4xxx out of 4xxx, but at least I completed the whole course! While I ran at least twice a week in Syd, I only managed to run about 15 times for the whole year last year in London. However, I believe the strength and determination I have built up from the trekking in the Himalayas, the summit climb of Mt Kilimanjaro, the adventures in the Arctic and Sahara desert will keep me motivated for the tough training in the next 3 months. More importantly, I need your support for the charity I'm running for - YMCA:

YMCA work with disadvantaged young people, children and families across the country. They support young people to reach their full potential no matter what their background or circumstances. Below are some examples of how they do it:

-Offering a safe place to stay - every night over 7,000 homeless young people sleep safely at a YMCA, which provides them with skills, education and training so they can escape homelessness forever and live independently

- Support families - work closely with families, providing nursery care, parenting support, holiday programmes and family mediation

- Giving young people a fresh start - support children and young people who are struggling with life, helping them to recognise their potential and to reach their goals

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and donate now.

Thank you

Winnie
