WE DID IT! ALL TEAM WRIGHT MEMBERS COMPLETED (W)RIGHT TO THE SUMMIT - ROSEMARY, IAN, KAREN & STEPHEN ARE NOW FULLY RECOVERED!
What a fantastic time we had. It was a long hard slog (four and a half hours up, two and a half back down!), but it was worth it. We were part of a group of 20 (and two dogs) and everyone made it to the top. The way down was painfull, but a refreshment in the pub at the bottom eased that a bit!
We are astonished and humbled with the support we have received from family, friends (including those at 45 Commando), neighbours and work colleagues and contacts, not forgetting those who saw the article in the local press or stumbled on the site by chance. Many thanks again to you all - please accept our apologies if we haven't been able to thank you personally.
To anyone visiting our page for the first time, we are still more than happy for you to increase our total in memory of Gary - it really is a very worthwhile cause.
We've added a few photos, just to prove we did it! The cloud is real - no fake photos here! We couldn't see too much at the top, but there were some great views on the way up and the way down (especially the pub on the way down)! A late addition to the fund raising was a great solo effort by neighbour Tam Allan - well done that man! Thanks again to everyone who sponsored us!
What a fantastic response - thanks so much, everybody! We really appreciate your support, it means so much to us. We have reached (and now exceeded!) our target of £4,408 - giving us 'A Pound For Every Foot' - of Ben Nevis but we haven't finished yet!
So, please keep it coming - you gave us a lot to live up to, but hopefully we lived up to your expectations (and exceeded ours)! The training definitely paid off!
Your donations will mean so much to RMBF. Our thoughts are particularly with the Marines and families of 40 Commando as they are going through such a tough time just now.
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We lost our very special son and brother Gary in Afghanistan on 19th October 2006. The pain will never go away, but we treasure Gary's memory so much. He was very proud to be a Royal Marine and loved the Marine life. His time in the Marines, particularly in Recce Troop of 45 Commando at RM Condor, Arbroath, was the happiest in his all too short life. He packed so much in - a real Action man Hero!
Back in those grey days after his tragic death the first help we received was from the Royal Marines Benevolent Fund. We are now grateful to a couple of other 45 Mums - Tracy Gibson and Elaine Vickers - for helping to give us an opportunity to repay the support we received, and hopefully help other Marines and their families in times of stress and hardship.
We joined Tracy's group going up Ben Nevis - Britain's highest mountain - on Saturday, 14th August 2010. Those of you who know us well will know that climbing is not one of our normal activities! As a result, we hope you will give generously in memory of Gary. Our team was Ian, Rosemary, Karen and Stephen.
