Thank you (yes you!!) for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page for the Glasgow Easter Egg run
The Glasgow Easter Egg Run has returned for 2010 after its postponement in 2009.
In 2008, the last egg run, over 10,000 bikes turned up and approximately £35,000 pounds raised for Yorkhill, for Sick Children. You can appreciate the difference that money will make for all the people involved in the day to day running - the nurses, doctors, parents, siblings and the patients themselves.
Yorkhill Children's Foundation aims to provide all the "extra" services and equipment which make a child's stay in the Royal Hospital for Sick Children at Yorkhill in Glasgow less distressing. These can include innovative medical equipment, improvements in child and family facilities and paediatric research and training.
Scanners, incubators, ventilators, monitors and many more examples of equipment, services and research have been added to the hospital's resources. All are at work helping to put smiles back on children's faces.
As bikers ourselves (and a previous Yorkhill patient) we have always seen the event as the unoffical start to the biking season and we missed it last year. However we only really appreciated the public feeling to the event when during the summer of 2009 we were acousted by an elderly female who demanded to know why the run did not happen and it was a shame as she had always enjoyed watching it. The children at the hospital were also disappointed - although there were about 300 bikers that turned up regardless ( Good on them!)
So early 2010 when there was no run logged with the Glasgow Council we decided to go for it and try and organsied it oursleves. We could not have the run stop and have Yorkhill miss out on some vital funding. We have all put our time together to make difference to these kids doing something that we love and lets hope that everyone- bikers and non bikers- will support us in donation, in word of mouth promotion in turning up and being part of it and helping us smash that inital target I have posted.
For the bikers amoung us - check out the facebook site for the group and latest update. Turn up on the day and be part of the new run and enjoy the blast through the city centre, wake up the residents, provide some inspiration for the kids and smile for when you see those kids smile you have helped them on their recovery!!
Do it for the kids, do it for the fun, whatever just do it and just give!
Photos (from previous runs) and updates will be provided as an when we get the thumbs up - so make sure you keep coming back.
