YoungMinds Charity Gig · 12 September 2012

We’re leading the fight for a future where all young minds are supported and empowered, whatever the challenges. We’re here to make sure children and young people get the best possible mental health support and have the resilience to overcome life’s difficulties. Join our fight.

Story

I am organising a gig comprising 4 popular local bands at the Forum in order to fundraise for the charity YoungMinds on the 22 September 2012.
As a doctor specializing in Child Psychiatry, I have been able to appreciate the importance of various voluntary organizations in helping people with mental health problems. Statistics show that 1:4 people suffer from mental health issues and some 850,000 children and young people in the UK have a mental health problem. YoungMinds is the UK’s leading charity committed to improving the emotional well-being and mental health of children and young people. It tries to achieve its aims by providing expert knowledge through its free and confidential Parents’ Helpline, participation with young people, professional training, work in schools and ensuring mental health is placed firmly on the public and political agenda. Being a violinist, I thought of putting together a musical event, with the help of 4 local bands who are playing for free. The line up should include Jon Mills, The Breretons, Rocket Lovers featuring Coco Levie and Son of Kirk.
