My name's Ysabelle Thackray and I'm in my final year at Dunbar Grammar School.
Before I go to Glasgow university to study medicine, I am volunteering with Project Trust ( an educational charity) for a whole year in the South Africa ( No longer the south of India!)
I will be working in the Mitchell House Enrichment centre in Polowkane in the Limpopo province. Mitchell House Enrichment centre caters for children with mental and physical disabilities. I will be working closley with the children, supporting them with basic needs like feeding or writing. I will also provide one to one attention for those who need extra help.
But before I can go I need to raise £4850 and the money will pay for necessities such as flights, accomodation, insurance and living allowance.
So far I have had a very successful ceilidh and have recieved many kind donations after an article was written about me in the local paper (http://www.eastlothiancourier.com/news/dunbar/articles/2009/12/03/394762-wouldbe-doctor-bids-for-yearlong-indian-venture/). I hope to raise some more funds by getting sponsorship for running the Chris Hoy half marathon in Edinburgh in April.
Update: On the 18th of April i completed the half marathon! The weather was horrible and it was pretty tough, but i beat my dad so it was all worth it (: I also held a gig in a local pub and managed to raise £500!
So if you would like to help me get to South Africa, donations would be greatly appreciated (:
Thank you!
