Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I'm raising money for Haematology Trials Charitable Funds 0154. In 2010 my office-mate, Martyn, began to experience problems with walking. Getting around turned into an ordeal; so naturally Martyn went to see his doctor. His lower body became so weak that he became confined to a wheelchair. Martyn was eventually referred to the Churchill hospital in Oxford where he was treated for what turned out to be a very rare condition. After enduring months of uncertainty, chemotherapy, and a stem cell transplant, Martyn is making a good recovery. In time I hope to see him walking around comfortably without the aid of a frame.

26 April 2012 - Unfortunately I am not now going to be able to run the Milton Keynes Marathon on 29 April due to injury. I’ve had problems with my right calf muscle for the past month, and have been unable to run on it despite being fit enough in every other sense. I’m having to do low-impact training to keep my cardio-fitness going. I couldn’t be more disappointed really. It’s soul-destroying especially since the training was going so well. I ran the Milton Keynes half marathon on 04 March (in 2 hours and 4 minutes), and I’m hoping to run another half on 08 July. In my training I managed to get up to 17 miles. Now I need to get my right calf back in working order and back into running again, sufficient to do 26 miles.

I’d like to thank everyone who has made a donation on my Just Giving page. What I plan to do with the aid of physio and sports massage, is rest, rehab’, and train for a marathon later in the year, for the same cause.  Donations made on this Just Giving site will have gone to the charity already; so I really want to do my bit to earn that money later in the year. I’ll keep everyone up-to-date with progress once I have set a date. This has made me even more determined to keep training and reach what is also my personal goal; to run a  marathon.

In the meantime thank you so much for your support, and for supporting Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals Charitable Funds.
