We support, connect and skill parents to support children through mental illness

Story

After having so much fun last time, I’ve signed up to do another charity boxing match on November 11th, this time again raising funds for Parenting Mental Health. A charity that supports parents of children with mental health needs, much like my awesome daughter who finds it difficult to express her own emotions and control how she's feeling. Being able to help parents to understand how to support their children is an amazing thing which this charity strives to do.

Because 1 in 6 children have a diagnosable mental health issue we founded Parenting Mental Health. Parenting Mental Health is a charity set up to support and skill parents with the enormous, often invisible challenge, of parenting a child with a mental health issue. When your child experiences poor mental health, the whole family is impacted. Life is not the same as it was before - it is uncertain, full of difficulties and overloaded with emotion and expectation.

We see the positive impact parents can have on their family's emotional wellbeing and know that when a parent is supported, it's more likely their child will be too. We know that we can reduce feelings of isolation by offering a safe, judgement free space for parents to connect with other people in similar situations, when no-one else seems to ‘get it’ or  talk about we do.

Our work supports, skills and empowers parents through our 24/7 digital community, emotional support services, counselling, respite care, events, resources and training courses so they can be present, patient and prepared, for what comes their way.

About the charity

When 2/3 children with a diagnosable mental health issue don't get treatment from the NHS, they turn to parents - yet everything you knew about parenting is changed. PMH aim to skill and support 1 million parents through this experience by 2026, with vital resources, guides and connection.
