The Refugee Council is the nation’s refugee charity. Together with community groups, partners and volunteers, we help people who have escaped war and persecution to rebuild their lives, integrate into communities, and play their part in Britain.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Imagine being forced to flee the only home and life you have know, to come to a strange country where you do not know anyone and feel isolated, don't speak the language, unfamiliar with the culture and food, uncertain if you will be allowed to stay or be sent back to a life of war, torture and persecution.

I on the other hand will be thinking what restaurant can I try out, Vietnamese or Indian, should I book a ticket to see a Flamenco show or see a movie, what country can I visit this year for my holiday, do I fancy learning Hindi or Spanish! Choices, so many choices.....not a luxury asylum seekers or refugees have. Children and adult asylum seekers and refugees will face many challenges before being able to enjoy the freedom that we have, if at all!!

Here are some of the Refugee Council’s key projects:

·         Therapeutic case workhelping people come to terms with the trauma they have experienced both in their home country and on their journey to safety. There is huge demand for this service and they need to raise at least £200,000 every year to run the service in London. Additional funding would enable them to expand the service to Yorkshire and the Midlands, where many refugees are dispersed.

·         The Children’s section – providing specialist support for trafficked children and those whose age is questioned. In 2012 around 1100 separated children arrived in the UK. They need to raise at least £250,000 every year to respond to the needs of these children.

For more information about the key projects and all the other work the Refugee Council does please visit their website at www.refugeecouncil.org.uk

I am raising money for the Refugee Council because I believe the work and support they give to asylum seekers and refugees is absolutely vital in helping children and adults rebuild their lives in a new and safe environment! If I was in their situation I would hope that someone would be helping me!!

Thank you again for taking the time to visit my page and hope that you will make a donation small or large, all will help.

Many thanks, Zarina
