I am running the BUPA Great North Run 2011 on 18th September. I am raising charity for Bliss, (a charity specific for premature babies. I was born premature). I hope to raise £500, possibly more. I have started to prepare for it now by spinning and running. I have already been doing yoga and pilates, and I am continuing it.
I was born weighing only 2lb 12 ounces. I was born 2 and half months premature and had to be kept in the special baby care uni for an extra month at South Shields Baby Care Unit. It was more or less touch or go that I would survive. The doctors and nurses were amazing and gave a massive support to my mam and dad, even after I had left the hospital. Therefore, I am raising money for Bliss.
Bliss specifies in improving the care for babies that are born too soon, too small or too sick and they ensure that they have the best possible start in life. Approxmately, one in eight babies are born premature every year (that works out about 80,000) and around 17,000 of those babies need intensive care. This figure is rising. I've included a few example donations below which explains how exactly the funds raised can help.
£10 can provide telephone support for a family.
£60 could fund a neonatal nurse on a Bliss study day.
However, any donation is amazing. Please, dig deep and sponsor me online. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most effiecient way to sponsor me and others. When you donate, Bliss will recieve your donation straight away.
Thanks for visiting my fundraising page. Spread the word.
Many many thanks for all of your support.
Zoe.
