Story
Abbey's Challenge was successfully completed by Steve Morris and Bob Chatterton in an excellent time of 26 hours and 50 minutes. Unfortunately Bob Thorburn had to drop out at Mile 36 with a knee injury. All donations have as yet not been entered on the just giving site but it look's like the target total of 5,000 pound's will be reached and breached. Team Abbey have done a wonderful job organizing, fund raising and supporting the 100 mile challenge and the runner's would like to thank the Thorburn family and friends for all their effort's .
In 1999 Abbey Thorburn was diagnosed with a Rhabdomyosarcoma soft tissue tumour, a type of cancer that mostly affects children. Being just 5 years old, she was treated by the sick kids cancer ward in Edinburgh for the next 3 years. Sadly Abbey lost her fight against cancer on the 24th of November 2001, 10 days before her 8th birthday.
On Fri and Sat the 6th & 7th of August 2010, Bob Chatterton, Steve Morris & Abbey's uncle Bob Thorburn will attempt to run 100 miles non stop, from Newport on Tay to the Royal Hospital for sick children in Edinburgh. They are running in memory of Abbey and in aid of the Sick Kids Friends Foundation. The first 83 Miles of Abbey's Challenge will follow the Fife coastal path to the Forth road bridge. After crossing over, the route follow's local foot and cycle path's, Via Leith dock's, to the finish line in Edinburgh. The runners will be supported and resupplied along the route by members of Abbeys family.
