Story

UPDATED 13/03/2011 !!!!!

OK two days post march and boy are we stiff!! the legs are well seized now BUT we can put up with the soreness for such a worthy cause :-)

What an amazing day! the atmosphere and support along the route was incredible and we just want to say a HUGE HUGE 'Thank you' to all of our marchers for giving up their Sunday and coming with us. We were quite emotional at the end and won't forget the sight of the rest of 'The Army' clapping and cheering us over the line!! I know Abbie would be so proud of each and every one of us.

Keep going to get those donations in guys...and to everyone who has pledged or donated thanks again you amazing lovely people.xx

Hi and welcome to all sponsors of Abbie's Army!! Thank you so much for choosing to support our recruits.

You have reached the team page set up to receive sponsorship for any members of the 'Abbie's Army' team who will be marching for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity at the Marsden March on Sunday March 11th , 2012. This is a walk of 14 miles between the Chelsea and Sutton hospital sites.

You can read more of Abbie's story at www.abbiesarmy.co.uk but she was a remarkably brave little girl who spent two months at The Royal Marsden in Sutton undergoing radiotherapy when diagnosed with an inoperable and incurable brain tumour. Sadly Abbie died on September 13th, 2011 exactly 5 months from her diagnosis.

Writing this as her parents although obviously extremely difficult fills us with such pride at the legacy she has left and in awe of how she continues to inspire so many people, we have in excess of 50 people all on the march for such a worthy cause which is so close to our hearts.

It is difficult to explain the pain that a terminal cancer diagnosis brings particularly for such a young child... our darling daughter was our entire world and to grieve her whilst she was still running around in front of us was without doubt the most excrutiating thing that any parent can ever face.

During our time at the Marsden however we encountered some of the most compassionate, professional and inspirational people you could ever meet, people who just do the most amazing work for everyone in such an awful situation. Attending the children's day care centre the atmosphere is certainly not sad, but always hopeful and to give something back to the place that looked after us in our darkest days in memory of our gorgeous girl is an honour and a privilege.

Thank you everyone at The Royal Marsden Sutton for all you did for Abbie and for us.

Amanda & Ray
