My story

Welcome to the Apel Aber Three Appeal fundraising page.

Chris Bates, Rob Bates and Llyr Raw Rees are hoping to raise over £10,000 in aid of DebRA by running the London Marathon on the 26th April 2009.

In 1999 Llyr’s mother Velvor, and Rob and Chris’ father Tony ran the marathon along with 4 others and raised £41,000 which was equally distributed between DebRA, Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Aberystwyth Mini Minors.  Velvor and Tony vowed that 10 years later their children would also run the marathon in aid of charity and Llyr, Rob and Chris are committed to raising not less than £10,000 for this exceptionally good cause.

DebRA is the only national charity exclusively committed to the support and care of families affected by EB (Epidermolysis Bullosa), and increasing the quality of life of those with the condition. EB is the genetic condition causing blistering and shearing of the skin and internal linings from the gentlest friction. DebRA works by improving treatment for those with the condition, and searching for a cure DebRA relies totally on voluntary support and donations for all aspects of its work. Locally, DebRA has provided tremendous support to Aberystwyth schoolgirl Angharad Williams who suffers from EB but whose quality of life has been hugely enhanced by the advice and practical assistance received from the charity

If you have a minute you can read more about DebRA by following the link below.

As part of their fundraising efforts Llyr, Rob and Chris will be arranging a number of local fundraising events, the first of which is to be a table top sale at Aberystwyth Football Club at 2pm on 8th February.  The runners’ fundraising efforts have been boosted by the decision of two other local organisations to support the cause:  Menter Aberystwyth  is to  adopt Apel Aber 3 as the principal recipient for funds raised in the annual Welsh Ladies Fun Run due to be held on the prom on March 1st. In addition, the organisers of Castell Rock have also decided to donate  50% of funds raised in the annual Rock Music Event due to take place on 30th May  at Aberystwyth Castle.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: DebRA gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

Thank you for all your support.
