Reading Half Marathon 2010 · 21 March 2010 ·

Helen & Douglas House helps local families cope with the challenges of looking after a terminally ill baby or child who will die prematurely. We are a home from home for our patients and their families, and provide round-the-clock care in a warm, loving environment.

Story

On the 21st March 2010 members of Abingdon School Upper Sixth will be running the Reading Half Marathon in order to raise money for Helen and Douglas House, and we need your help!

Helen & Douglas House is a registered charity providing respite and end of life care for children and young adults with life-shortening conditions, as well as support and friendship for the whole family. The two hospice houses are bright, vibrant and positive places, where the emphasis is on living life to the full, even when that life may be short. They are almost entirely funded by voluntary donations and each one that they receive helps them to continue supporting between 250-300 families each year.

So please, give as much as you can, every little helps! Remember to use gift aid if you can!

*UPDATE: After weeks of training (albeit some more than others..!) we lined up on the start line eager to begin. Conditions couldn't have been better, and having donned our dashing orange vests, we set off! With the support of Reading behind us, and our very own cheerleader Mr Glass, everyone completed the 13.1 miles in very respectable times, with Chris Burgess recording an impressive 1:33:56. We all enjoyed the experience very much, and there are murmurings of a full marathon next year!

Pictures will be up shortly, and remember that this page will stay open for another few months so keep donating! It would be great to surpass our target!
