Age UK is the new force combining Age Concern and Help the Aged We believe that age needs respect. It needs kindness. Sometimes it needs help. Too many people experience difficulties as they age. We cannot promise everyone good health, but we will fight for good care for all of us. Where we find loneliness, we will reach out. When age becomes a burden, we will try to lighten the load. Age UK will campaign. We will fundraise. We will research. We will make the powers that be listen. We will do all this to make life better for older people here and abroad. Age UK is for all of us, because age is a part of life.

Story

Our much loved father and grandfather, Abolhassan Hassanzadeh, passed away peacefully on Tuesday 13th January, 2009, following a short illness in hospital.  In his latter years he suffered from a variety of ailments including Alzheimer’s disease.  Despite this, he never complained nor lost his exuberance for life.  His forbearance is an example to us all.

Abolhassan was born in Rasht, in the north of Iran on 24th March 1924.  He was a successful Accountant and had an accomplished career that saw him rise to the level of CFO with multinational companies in Tehran.  He had been well educated and was a learned scholar in many diverse subjects from law and religion, to poetry and literature.  Abolhassan was well known in his community as a trusted business advisor and a friend who could be relied upon to selflessly lend a helping hand whenever it was required.

He was a devoted husband and father who ensured that his children received the best education in Iran and overseas.   In 1986, he and his wife Zahra came to live in London to be closer to their children and their families.

Abolhassan was always sociable and friendly, and he enjoyed the company of others immensely.  In recent years, Abolhassan spent many happy days at Age Concern's Parker Centre, in Houndsfield Road, Edmonton.  His innate sociability and amiable nature overcame the debilitating effects of his illness and transcended language barriers, enabling him to make many new friends at the day centre.  He found a home away from home at the Parker Centre and was much loved by staff and clients alike.  He looked forward to going there and even during his last days in hospital, he would ask when he could go back there.

The Parker Centre Centre provides a safe, caring and stimulating environment specifically for people with dementia, as well as offering support to carers.  The family would like to acknowledge the wonderful caring support Abolhassan and his carers continually received from Anne, Lisa and all the staff by asking for donations in Abolhassan's memory to be made via this page or directly to Age Concern Enfield, The Parker Centre, 6 Houndsfield Road, Edmonton, N9.

Thank you for visiting Abolhassan's page.
