Intrepid adventurers James Whyte and Rupert Potts have reformed for another small drive in the country.

In 2007 they completed the infamous Mongol Rally in a 1988 Citroen 2CV and most importantly raised over £1000 for charity.

This time their attention turns south and Africa. On the 13th December 2009 they will depart from the UK in a 1982 Citroen 2CV, known as The Walmington. Their goal is to reach Cameroon 34 days later, after driving through 11 countries and approximately 8000 miles. They will be up against the usual unpredictable potholed roads and potentially car splitting jungle mud tracks. All in a days work for these two but all for two fantastic causes.

This time we are supporting two excellent charities: The Rainforest Foundation (UK) and Ape Action Africa.

On this page you can donate to The Rainforest Foundation (UK):

Every year an area of rainforest the size of England and Wales is cut down.

This leaves local people homeless, drives animals and plants to extinction and releases more CO2 emissions, which cause climate change, than all of the world’s planes, trains and cars.

Tropical deforestation is an issue that affects us all.

The Rainforest Foundation tackles deforestation locally and globally. Locally it helps forest communities to gain land rights, challenge logging companies and manage forests for their own wellbeing and protection of their environment. Globally it campaigns to influence national and international laws to protect rainforests and their inhabitants.

Since it was founded in 1989 the Rainforest Foundation has helped indigenous and local communities to protect more than 100,000 square kilometers of rainforest .
