Cycing the States: Boston to San Diego · 19 April 2008

5.4 million children across the world are currently trapped in orphanages – even though 80% of them have family they could live with if they had the right support. Orphanages harm children, depriving them of love and exposing them to abuse. Your support helps us get children to back to family.

Story

I plan to cycle from Boston (Massachussettes) to San Diego (California) this summer for charity - a distance of about 4200 miles. I have chosen three charities and I hope to raise a total of £1000. One of the three charities I have chosen is Hope and Homes for Children; their blurb on the left speaks for itself. I was brought to the attention of this charity by a much more ambitious cyclist than myself: one Alastair Humphreys who spent four years cycling around the world. This was 'his' charity and when I emailed him recently telling him I was looking for a good efficient charity in sincere need of funds he replied that "Hope and Homes are certainly a great charity: they are effective, efficient, professional and would certainly make good use of your money. I recommend them highly." So please sponsor me for as much as you can, either for this charity, the Campaign to Protect Rural England or World Land Trust (go to www.justgiving.com/ruralengland or www.justgiving.com/worldecology respectively). It would really mean a lot to me.

Sponsoring me through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Hope and Homes for Children will receive your money directly through this website and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Just click the 'sponsor us now' button below.

Note that this is a genuine sponsorship: if I do not complete the ride up to at least as far as Flagstaff (Arizona) - unless due to injury - I will personally refund you whatever you have donated on request! [up to a limit of £500 total for all three charities. If in the highly improbable event I am asked for over £500 to be refunded I shall have to apply a pro-rata system]

To see the details about my route, why I chose the States etc. and to view the blog which I hope to keep updated throughout my ride, please check out www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/3548

Thanks ever so much for your support.
