The Arctic Circle Race is said to be the toughest cross country ski race and is one of the 10 hardest endurance challenges in the world. The ACR takes place in Greenland in March and is a 100 mile course over three days. We will be camping out overnight and temperatures regularly drop to -30C in the day. Marcus and Duncan have some experience of cross country skiing and are both ex soldiers, though now they have crossed the 40 year barrier are not as fit as they once were. They are intending to finish the race and not set any records though it will still be an enormous challenge. They will be tested to our limit but it will still be nothing compared to that experienced on a daily basis by people with EB.
Only one or two people from the UK attempt the Arctic Circle Race each year. Their fitness training started in March and it will take almost a year to reach the required standard. They will be running, hill walking, roller skiing, cycling, and circuit training.
