Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
This summer from 17th - 20th August, I am doing a sponsored bike ride from London to Paris with six of my friends to raise money for the disability initiative Activenture. We want to reach our target of £6,000 but we will push hard to raise even more money!
Activenture is London Youth’s pioneering initiative which provides residential adventure weeks for young people with disabilities and special needs, respite care for their carers and siblings and a brilliant volunteering opportunity for young people. Activenture weeks provides a safe place for disabled young people to enjoy activities which they would not normally have the opportunity to try out; such activities include abseiling, climbing, archery, canoeing, zip-wiring and much more.
These week-long residential adventures are not only key to enhancing the lives of the young people involved, but are also fundamental to their parents' and carers' lives. Activenture allows the young people to have an enjoyable holiday in a different environment, while at the same time ensuring that their parents and carers are given a much deserved break from the 24 hour, 7 day-a-week responsibilities that are required of them.
Activenture weeks take place at Woodrow High House in Buckinghamshire and Hindleap Warren in East Sussex. Last year 295 young people benefited from Activenture. It costs £1,600 to take one disabled young person to Activenture for a week. Families can only fund around half of this amount leaving a funding-gap of almost £1,000 for each young person. This is where we come in and are aiming to raise funds for this much needed and deserving charity.
Our ride will take 3 days. We’ll be camping at various locations, starting at London’s Westminster Bridge and ending at the Arc de Triomphe on the Champs-Elysees in Paris.
