Story

We are refurbishing our backstore hall at Andalus. We received a grant of £10,000 from Awards for All and are looking for another £5,000. We hope, God-willing, to have a fully functioning multipurpose activity hall with new windows allowing more light, changing and toilet facilites for both sexes, storage facility and a new floor. So imagine what you could be doing martial arts, archery, pilates etc.. A hall that can be used by males, females (private space) and children. Functions, yes functions we will also be able to cater for small functions upto a 100 people. There is lots happening and God-willing more to come. So please help us, donate, spread the word by letting others know about our appeal.

Our vision is to create a Beacon Institute and Community Hub. We are working towards breaking barriers and community integration by promoting understanding and sharing the rich and diverse Muslim cultural tradition, and at the same time embracing our Scottish roots.

Our motto is the same motto that was placed above the entrance to the major universities of Andalusia during the Muslim era:

“The world is held by four pillars:
the wisdom of the learned,
the justice of the great,
the prayers of the righteous,
and the valour of the brave."

Our current work includes an imaginative Arabic playgroup for pre-school children, an educational mother and toddlers group, Arabic language and Qur'anic recitation classes for over a 100 adults and children, a creative arts and crafts project, Calligraphy workshops and a youth character development project based on sports called the Rihla.
