Story
Check out my blog at; http://adamnixonblog.wordpress.com/
On the 13 of July I will be walking through the Pyrenees from Hendaye on the Atlantic coast to Banyuls-sur-mer on the Mediterranean. This route, known as the “GR10” is an epic 538 miles through mountains and wilderness; I will be walking solo, camping and carrying everything on my back for a period of 6 weeks!
The question is WHY?!
Last year my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer, which was a very worrying and upsetting experience. She was determined to win the battle against this illness. She underwent an operation, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The way she dealt with the demanding treatment was inspirational and she did everything to stay positive. One organisation which helped her tremendously was Katharine House Hospice. She started to visit the Hospice to access a range of services that they provide; these proved to be extremely beneficial but what she found to be most amazing and important was the care and warmth also provided.
For anyone who visits the Hospice it is incredible to witness how they care for every individual who comes to access the wide range of care they provide. I know from personal experience how much the Hospice helped my mum and other people who are battling with serious a illness. Katharine House is a local charity and relies heavily on donations; I do hope that my expedition can help other people, who like my mum, are dealing with illness. I’m aiming to raise £2,000 as this is the amount that it takes to run the day unit for a 24 hour period. I just hope that my efforts will go some way to helping people and giving them the care and support they need.
Thank you for reading this and I hope you will give to this amazing charity that provide such an outstanding service in the local community.
