On 4th July 2009 we will take part in Ride 4 Clayton, an 1800 mile charity cycle from Newbury to Portugal. We will ride across France, over the Pyrenees, and through the heat of central Spain, arriving on the south coast of Portugal just 14 days later.
Ride 4 Clayton will be the first in a series of challenges which will take part annually to raise money for The Adam Clayton Foundation, for which we are proud to be involved with. In October 2008 our good friend Adam lost his life to a brain tumour and it is in his memory that The Adam Clayton Foundation has been created.
The Adam Clayton Foundation was set up to encourage young people from all walks of life to pursue a career in the medical profession. Each year the Foundation will grant support scholarships to students in West Berkshire. We hope that by assisting those students at this early stage, who too often feel restricted by financial reasons, will allow them to fulfil their potential and become the future of the medical profession.
Each student will receive not only financial support in the first year of their studies but also the opportunity to take part in cancer research placements organised by the Foundation. It is hoped that the scholarship will nurture future generations of the medical profession and promote an awareness of cancer based treatments and how they are being developed in the UK.
Over the coming years we hope to raise £85,000 and establish a self-perpetuating foundation. This will produce funds year on year to support aspiring medical students from lower income backgrounds in the West Berkshire area.
