Last year was the 200th anniversary of the passage of the Bill abolishing the slave trade in theBritish Empire. Yet the United Nations estimates that there are currently more than 27 million people in slavery today. International Justice Mission is a human rights organisation, staffed by committed Christians, that is working to bring about lasting system change to end slavery, while at the same time freeing as many slaves as possible and giving them a new start and hope. Isaiah 1:17 sums us the aims of their work: [to] learn to do good, seek justice, help the oppressed, defend the cause of orphans, fight for the rights of widows.
It is to raise money for this organisation that this overweight, unfit, middle aged civil servant has agreed to haul himself round 20km of the most undulating (no seriously, don’t laugh) streets of Brussels on a hot May afternoon.
