Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my fundraising page.

I have decided to cycle 655km / 407 miles (approx) across Northern Vietnam in 12 days. I have chosen to raise money for, 'Bassetlaw Hospice of the Good Shepherd' (Cedar House, Retford, Nottinghamshire).  Even though I am going alone I will be in an organised group of around 30 people who are all fund-raising for their chosen charities.

Bassetlaw Hospice is a cause close to my heart as my own grandmother has spent time here and continues to go in for respite care, to help get her back on her feet during bad periods of her illness; she will most likely spend her ultimate days here too. A close family friend also spent her final days here which enormously helped out her family in the emotionally, mentally and physically draining times as they have ours.
From my own experiences of Bassetlaw Hospice I have learnt that the staff are some of the kindest most caring people in existence, we should all be grateful that there are people and such an organisation  in the world who look out for our loved ones, ourselves and those that don't have loved ones themselves. Bassetlaw Hospice have to raise £250,000 a year to continue to operate, in my wildest dreams what we manage to raise will be a small percentage but critical all the same.

Bassetlaw Hospice has for the last 11years provided specialist palliative care and support for patients with a life limiting illness. It provides Day Care services for up to ten patients a day, and a specialist six-bed roomed in patient unit for respite, symptom management and final phase care. It makes no charge for the service and aims to offer support to both patients and their families, adding hopefully life to days, when days cannot always be added to a life.
