Bliss is the leading UK charity for babies born premature or sick. We rely on donations to fund our work but with one baby admitted to neonatal care every five minutes we don’t have the resources to reach every baby who needs us. Your donation can help Bliss ensure every baby gets the best care.

Thanks to everyone for your sponsorship and support, especially to Bernadette for her patience in my endeavours.

*****************************************************

Our daughter Amelie Grace was born on 5th March 2003 at the Royal Sussex County Hospital , Brighton , 6 weeks prematurely at a gestation of 34 weeks. Shortly after birth Amelie was moved to the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU) where the nurses could monitor and ensure she received any treatment or medical assistance that was required.

Like Amelie, 70,000 children born each year in the require some sort of special care at birth. Of the 700,000 babies born annually 14,000 will need the highest level of neonatal care.

For the forth consecutive year on Sunday 22rd April 2007, I will be running the 26.2 miles of the 27th London Marathon. I am once again running for BLISS, The Premature Baby Charity and am attempting to raise a minimum of £2500. BLISS is dedicated to ensuring that more babies born prematurely or sick at birth survive, and that each one has the best possible quality of life.

BLISS provides:

Ø       Life saving equipment (it is estimated that up to two thirds of all equipment in neonatal units is donated by charity).

Ø       Funds practical and clinical research

Ø       Supports the training of health professionals

Ø       Provides information and support for families of premature babies

Ø       Campaigns for improved services nationally

By having immediate care at birth lives are being saved and some future problems such as handicap and disability are being alleviated or avoided altogether.

Please could you support me and help make a difference to the lives of babies like Amelie by making a pledge to BLISS today?
