SOS Children's Villages UK offers unsupported children worldwide the chance to grow up in a safe and nurturing family environment with education and healthcare. We work to reduce family breakdown and child abandonment and protect at-risk children affected by conflict and disaster.

Story

On 15th September 2011, I will be embarking on a trip of a lifetime to trek Kilimanjaro to raise funds for the SOS Childrens Villages of Hungary. This testing 10 day challenge starts in the foothills of Kilimanjaro and involves 6 days of treking and camping to reach the summit at a height of 5660 metres. The conditions will be tough and in particular adapting to these high altitudes can be very challenging and is the reason that not everyone makes it to the top. The funds raised will go towards projects in the SOS childrens villages of Hungary where money is required to support the lives of children who have been orphaned, left by their parents or abused in childhood. Specifically 3000 UK Pounds will purchase enough  computers for each household in Kecskemet village enabling the chidren to connect with their friends and family around Hungary. This charity has been selected as I have been supporting the homes for the last five years whilst working in Hungary and have closely followed the progress of the children at the Kecskemet village site.
