Yo dudes

On Saturday 22nd, I'll be taking part in a '24 hour' relay race in order to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The notion of a 24 hour race may remind you of such literary and televisual classics as Stephen King's The Long Walk and 24. Unfortunately, this is nothing like that, because:

1) I won't get shot if I stop walking
2) Unlike Jack Bauer, I do get to have some sleep

In fact, it's not 24 hours after all - it's runs from 3pm on Saturday to 10am on Sunday - and there'll be ten or fifteen other people taking turns to walk or run. I suspect that most of them will walk. However, I can tell you now that I will run during the entire time I'm on the track. That's right, you'll get your money's worth.

But seriously, it will be a challenge running for so long around the clock. It is for a good cause - cancer affects millions of people every year, and it is treatable. In time, given sufficient research, it'll be curable. Cancer Research UK is unique in being completely publicly funded, and last year it spent £250 million on basic research. I've met some of the scientists they support, and believe me, they aren't doing it for the money. They're doing it because it's important.
