My story
To all the doubters who didn't believe it could be done, we rolled into The Gambia on the 7th January to a hero's welcome. A successful mission in the sense that Suzi is now in Banjul but not an uneventful trip.
We've driven Suzi through a river, snow, fog, up sand dunes, down sand dunes, off road, on road, through the air, dirt tracks, fields, desert and at one stage i was even driving asleep! The steering had to be constantly tightened, the clutch cable was held together with bean tins, the roof rack had to be welded to the roof, the tranmission selector broke, the prop shaft ended up in someone else's car, a brake line had to be squashed flat, a side window fell off, the driver's door wouldn't open from the inside, the back door was hanging off, the passenger window could only be opened with molegrips, the electrics had a mind of their own, only one wiper worked, we nearly rolled the car dozens of times and at one stage Erika even locked the keys inside.
I has been a hard but memorable trip that like fine wine, the memories will get better with time. A more in depth Rally Report will be available on adventureross.com but the website has taken a setback and wont be on line for a while.
Thank you all for your support and raising such a grand total. I am overwhelmed by all your donations and know that the money will be well spent.
Thanks
Ross
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Thank you for visiting my fundraising page.
As part of the "Plymouth-Banjul Challenge" I am going to drive this old banger across the Sahara to Banjul, the capital of The Gambia. Along with my co-driver Erika and 60 other teams, we leave the UK on the 18th December hoping to arrive in Banjul by the 8th January 2006. Here, all cars will be auctioned off and the proceeds donated to local charities.
In doing this challenge, I would like to raise money for Cancer Research UK. The statistics speak for themselves; 1 in 3 people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives so please dig deep and sponsor me online.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. If you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. All sponsors over £10 will have their name put on the car... to help cover up the rust! So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support. You can monitor progress by visiting www.AdventureRoss.com or www.Plymouth-Banjul.co.uk
