The UN says that in the last few months, tens of thousands of Somalis have died of causes related to malnutrition. Most of them were children.
Very poor rainfall in the region (which includes Somalia, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Uganda) has led to the driest period in 60 years for some areas, leading to crop failures and deaths of livestock.
Sadly 50% of those whom are effected by the famine are children, who are now suffering from acute malnutrition.
Somalia is said to be the worst hit and the fear is that , if nothing is done then the whole country could go into the state of famine. Already basic food and water is not available to most people.
Al-Khair Foundation is working with volunteers and partners on the ground to supply emergency aid to the millions who are suffering. Our aid effort consists of the distribution of basic food stables such as flour, rice, other pulses, clean drinking water, and water purification equipment amongst other items.
