Story
"The African Descent & Trans-Kalahari Expedition"
Due to the fantastic amount of support we have recieved, we have now exceeded our goal for the charity Help For Heroes, so this is a new fundraising page purely for Tusk Trust. If you would like to have a look at the Help for Heroes page, go to justgiving.com/africandescenth4h
Between 16th June and 25th September this year, our team of four will drive a Land Rover Defender 12,000 Km, from Alexandria in Egypt, down the length of Africa, to finish in Cape Town, and intend to be the first team ever to cross the Kalahari Desert on foot, running as a relay.
The drive itself is no easy task, especially given today's political climate in Africa, as well as the remoteness of some of the areas we will be passing through, such as the Nubian Desert in Sudan, and of course the Kalahari in Botswana.
The run will cover a 645 Kilometre route, almost directly through the centre of the vast, dry and hostile lands of "one of Africa's last wildernesses'" - the Kalahari desert. We will be running as a relay, each completing the equivalent of half a marathon, every day, for eight consecutive days. Temperatures will be searing, wildlife (including dangerous predators) will be plentiful and human beings will be few and far between. We hope to achieve a unique "first" so we really hope that we can raise as much money as possible, to be split between two highly worthwhile charities: Help For Heroes, and Tusk Trust.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor us: Tusk Trust will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Please do tick this box!
So please sponsor us now!
Many thanks for your support.
