By participating in this virtual channel swim I am fundraising for ASPIRE, a charity supporting people with spinal cord injury.
The Aspire Channel Swim involves swimming the distance of the English Channel (22 miles) within 12 weeks in a location of  choice. It doesn't sound much of a challenge but for a rubbish swimmer like me doing just over 1400 lengths (1416 to be excact) in the local 25m pool does take a bit of an effort. If I am lucky, I will be able to crawl more than two lengths in a row after the event so I might consider competing in a triathlon next. And who knows, the real channel is just in front of my doorstep.
I know from personal experience how much difference the support of ASPIRE for a person with SCI makes. Please support their cause, any donation however small will be greatly appreciated. Especially their FES rowing project means a lot to me - have a closer look here if you are interested
