We provide expert care and support for people across Ayrshire living with life-shortening illness, and those closest to them. Our aim is to help people live well, with comfort, dignity and choice. Every person and moment matters - and with our community’s support, we’re here when it matters most.

Story

After a difficult time (much she was not aware of) Aileen passed away peacefully at the Ayrshire Hospice on Saturday the 7th of March 2009.

After a long time at The Beatson West of Scotland Cancer Centre and Crosshouse Hospital, Aileen came home as she was “not ready for the hospice”.

Most of the time was spent in bed as she was unable to stand, but she looked forward to sitting in a reclining chair supplied by the Ayrshire Hospice which she did, when physically possible.

She had her birthday at home with me and her friends on the 8th of December, and then went to the Ayrshire Hospice on the 11th of December, six weeks after leaving hospital.

We spent Christmas, New Year, and Valentines Day at the hospice, occasionally going out in a wheelchair to the places she enjoyed most.

After all she went through; she was in no pain when she died. Her funeral took place at the Ayr Old Kirk on Thursday the 12th of March 2009.

She was a brave and courageous girl right to the end of her life and cared more for others than herself.

Always in my heart – forever in my thoughts.
It’s not easy to say goodbye.

---------------------------------------------------------------------
I was diagnosed with cancer in May 2008 and have been unable to walk since September 2008.
I was in hospital for quite some time but managed to get home for 6 weeks until I arrived at the hospice.
I now need the specialist care that the Ayrshire Hospice provide and would ask you to donate to them to help everyone who needs hospice care.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor the Ayrshire Hospice. They get your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor the Ayrshire Hospice - Thanks, Aileen.
