On September 5th 2009, the first ever Army Benevolent Fund charity trek team will take part in the Annual Airborne trek which is held in Oosterbeek, Holland. This trek is held in memory of the Allied Airborne soldiers who jumped into battle on 17 September 1944 and is now in its 62nd year. We are aiming to walk on the 25km (16 mile) and 40km (25 mile) routes, as a team, collecting donations for the Army Benevolent Fund.

STOP PRESS - we have been challenged by Lucy Soper to complete the 40k in under 8 hours in order to secure an additional sponsorship commitment - challenge accepted?

The team is comprised of a group of friends and colleagues who love trekking, from the County of Warwickshire and elsewhere in the UK and Germany.

We are aiming to raise £5000 across our trek team, for the Army Benevolent Fund in memory of Private Joe Whittaker, from Stratford Upon Avon, Warwickshire, who was sadly lost on operations in Helmand Province, June 2008.

The funds raised will be donated to the ABF's current operations fund, which has been especially set up to make grants available to those affected by the current conflict in Afghanistan, and other theatres in which British and Commonwealth troops are serving.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Army Benevolent Fund gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor us and please do note the person you are sponsoring in the nomination page below.

Regards, the ABF Airborne Charity Trek tream
