Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you will know I travelled to Kenya in Autumn 2009 and visited the Akamba region providing eyecare, I shall be returning this October. For the people who live there, this will be the only eyecare they have had since my colleague Simon visited the region a year ago.

We have tested thousands of eyes and dispensed numerous spectacles, treated lots of eye diseases and injuries, and organised many cataract operations, by referral to Nairobi.

This is where your valued donation will be used, it costs approximately £50 to get an cataract operation organised, a fraction of western prices but completely beyond the means of these patients.

The cataracts we refer are the worst of the worst, very dense lens opacities that would have been operated upon a decade ago if they had been exposed to western medicine. They are often in relatively young individuals as they occur sooner in areas with greater UV exposure and in those with poor diets. The resulting blindness stops some from working and even keeps children away from schools to act as helpers.

Please do your bit to sponsor all or part of a cataract operation, you really will be changing someones life.

Dont forget to GiftAid.

No donation money goes to financing the charity or my trip expenses, JustGiving take a 5% commision but this can be avoided if you donate by text.
