My story

June 29th.  Yes, we all made it.  Although we had intended to walk as a group it didn't work out that way.  So many people all crowded together at the start made it difficult to establish a rhythm or to keep an eye on each other.  Even David's pink wig was hard to spot in the crowd.  So finishing times ranged from 2h 30 to 3h 20, but who's counting?  Given that our body clocks all thought we should be asleep, walking 10 miles in 3 hours is definitely mind over matter.  Refuelling at the Fire Station (bananas, chocolate orange and Fondant Fancies) made a welcome break at about 7 miles, and tea and buns at the cafe at the end for those who hung around took on a slightly Dunkirk aspect.

Our total is looking good, but could be better, so we are relying on friends, families, colleagues, clients and basically anyone who comes across this page to help us reach our target.

June 20th.  Well, not long to go now and we are all beginning to scan the weather forecasts for Saturday night. Not too hot and not at all wet will do nicely, thanks. Some of us are ostentatiously walking into Southdown every lunch time, while others have adopted a rigid diet of fish and chips. The rest are keeping their training under wraps, possibly in order to surprise us all on the night, or alternatively so that no-one expects too much of us. Gillian has been busily sewing pink ra-ra skirts for anyone who is brave enough to wear one (well, I suppose it WILL be dark.....). The totaliser is looking good, and we have all been promised a number of donations off-line so we are quietly optimistic about reaching the target of £2000 but every little helps and will be put to good use.
