Pedal for Scotland 2011 · 11 September 2011 ·

Every 9 days in Scotland a baby or child will die suddenly and unexpectedly - many of their families will never know why they died. As the only charity in Scotland dedicated to the issue of Sudden Unexpected Death in Infancy (SUDI), we provide support, education resources and fund research.

Story

Some of you may recall that last year I took part in the Pedal for Scotland 50 mile Glasgow to Edinburgh Cycle Race and many of you helped contribute to my charity effort raising over £650.

This year I have extended my own challenge and will take part in the 100 mile Sportive Route of the the same event which will still take me from Glasgow to Edinburgh but this time through the Southern Uplands on 11th September 2011.

My chosen charity for this years cycle will be Scottish Cot Death Trust.  Jacqui Graham (one of my LV= colleagues) and her family were devastated in 2009 when her nephew Robbie passed away and became a victim of Cot Death or SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), a condition where often no cause of death will be found and leaves families with many questions but no answers.  Since then the family have raised in excess of £17,000 to support Scottish Cot Death Trust in their work to try and find the answers through funding research.

The Scottish Cot Death Trust also provide a wide range of support for bereaved families and educates the public and professionals about cot death and how to reduce the risks.

I hope you will join me in helping them with even the smallest of donations.

Thanks

Alan
