Hi, my name is Alan Avon and I have been selected to represent Great Britain in badminton at the World Transplant Games, in the Summer of 2013. This is a tremendous honor.

I have had kidney failure from birth. In 1999 I was put on the waiting list to receive a kidney transplant and with in four days I had the call to come into the Hospital to have the transplant.

This year (2012)  I went along to the Transplant Games UK . To compete In Badminton and Archery. I won Gold in Archery and Brozne in Badminton. 

A couple of months later I recived an email from the Great British Transplant Team saying that I have been selected to compete in the World Transplant Games,

 I am  looking forward  to compete in such an amazing event and play against badminton players from other countries, and the chance to bring back a medal for my country.

The Funds that I am able to raise will cover the cost of the games such as the competitors flight,  competitors WTG Package (7 nights) and if required additiomal 2 nights.  Travel to and from the team meatings and to the departure  airport and the WTG administration fee. 

 

The World Transplant Games is a celebration of life, but it is important to understand that it helps raise international awareness of organ donation. The Games are intended to encourage people to sign up to the Organ Donor Register and discuss their wishes with their families. In the UK there are currently more than 7,500 people in need of a transplant, but only 28 per cent of the public are signed up to the Register.
