Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Some of you may have supported me 3 years ago for my Lands-End/John O'Groats Walk. In April 2008 I plan to do a shorter sponsored walk (more appropriate perhaps for my age!), following Robert Louis Stevenson's "Travels with a Donkey" Trail in the Cevennes, France - about 250 kms. Last year I joined the Fairbridge in Kent Regional Committee. This committee supports Fairbridge in Kent and helps raise funds for its work. Thousands of young people have given up hope. Outside education, employment and training, they see no future for themselves. As a result, there is litle stopping them getting into all sorts of trouble - from becoming homeless to involvement in drugs and crime. But why them? What makes these people lose their way in life? Fairbridge believes there is a simple answer. In the vast majority of cases these "hopeless" young people have never received the encouragement and opportunities that most of us take for granted. Often nobody has believed in them. Nobody has ever told them that they have something to offer. Nobody has helped them discover their skills and talents. THAT'S WHAT FAIRBRIDGE DOES. Through meeting some of the young people who have joined courses at Fairbridge, I have seen what a difference Fairbridge is making to their lives. So I have decided to help raise funds for this worthwhile work. I should be so grateful if you would support and sponsor me for Fairbridge. Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Fairbridge will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks in advance for your support. Alan Burner
