Alan

My name is Alan Fergusson, I am 41 years old, married with three children. We live in Blairlogie, Stirlingshire, Scotland. Together with my brother Tom, I am Managing Director of our family business, Fergusson Group. We are a coal company established in 1926. I left school at 15 to join my father and drove a coal lorry for a few years. Since then the business has grown from a localised Stirling basis to a national distribution, wholesaling and trading company.

I generally keep fit all the time and have been looking for a personal challenge for quite a while that would test me both physically and mentally. I heard about the Kilimanjaro Trek through a friend and with difficult terrain, the altitude and the fact i'll be travelling on my own, this challenge fit the bill perfectly.

I realised that I could do the challenge and benefit a charity  and around this time my wonderful niece Mhairi was diagnosed with epilepsy which was a bit of a shock to the whole family. She got a lot of help from the Muir Maxwell trust very early after the diagnosis which assisted greatly in stablising the condition.. It's not until someone close to you experiences these things that you realise the hard work that goes into managing these trusts.

The challenge takes place on between the 1 and 10 October 2008 and I am constantly training with this in mind. Please remember dontions will be for my attempt to complete the climb for even though i will be giving my all to this challenge not everyone can make it to the summit due to altitude sickness.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Muir Maxwell Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

So please sponsor me now!
