Children should be hungry to learn, not hungry for breakfast. Yet one in seven UK children face food insecurity. Magic Breakfast provides expert advice and breakfasts to schools in disadvantaged areas across England and Scotland.

Story

I’m running the Royal Parks Half Marathon to raise funds for Magic Breakfast, a small registered charity that fights child hunger, creates breakfast clubs, and delivers free breakfasts (bagels, cereal, juice, porridge oats) to thousands of state primary school children in our inner cities, especially inner city London.

The Challenge: Child hunger in Britain’s inner cities

According to Magic Breakfast, around 700,000 of the UK's poorest primary school children start the school day without any breakfast, which affects their ability to learn and get the most out of their education, and increases the likelihood of obesity and illness in later life. Nearly 4m UK children are living in income poverty, and 1 in 4 children only get one hot meal a day (their school lunch).

Magic Breakfast: a small charity providing a practical, immediate, tangible solution
At the primary school in east London where I'm a school governor, we have recently worked with Magic Breakfast to set up a breakfast club, to feed 20 of the poorest children every morning, to ensure they have a healthy breakfast and have the energy to learn and concentrate in class. Magic Breakfast provides a practical, immediate, tangible solution to the problem of child hunger, and has improved our children’s diet and concentration in class markedly since the breakfast club was launched. I have recently become a trustee of Magic Breakfast so I can do more to help this great charity.

How You Can Help: Give children get the best start to the day
Any donation – of any size – is welcome. £28 will provide breakfast every day for a primary school child - that's equivalent to the price of 10 coffees from Starbucks. Please help me raise at least £2500 to give 2 classes of 30 primary school children a healthy breakfast every day for a school year.

Magic Breakfast is a small charity – so your donation will have a huge impact on our work.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

So please dig deep and make a donation to help Magic Breakfast carry on their great work . Thank you for your support!
