Bupa Great North Run 2009 · 20 September 2009 ·

Every day 250 people in the UK start losing their sight. With your help, we can be there when people need us most, support independent living, create an inclusive society and prevent avoidable sight loss. Every pound you raise will help create a future where sight loss is no longer a barrier.

Story

Thanks for visiting my fundraising page.

This will be my 3rd Great North Run (GNR), and this year I will also run the Great Eastern Run in Peterborough 3 weeks later on 11th October 2009.  In 2007 I ran GNR in 02:09:15, and in 2008 02:07:25 - depending on where I start, I am hoping to get closer to the 2 hour mark for the 13.1 miles.  For Great Eastern Run, my best time was 01:55:24 back in 2007, so again, I will be trying to get close to the 2 hour mark.

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: RNIB gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.

I know times are difficult at the moment, but RNIB needs your help to continue its vital work for blind and partially sighted people. So please sponsor me now - every penny helps!

Alan

Update:

Despite a dodgy knee, I managed to complete the Great North Run in 02:09:10 - slightly slower than in 2008, but given the heat I am quite pleased with the time.  I finished 16,802 out of 37,601 finishers - my best placing in the 3 Great North Runs I have completed to date.
