Story
Hello! Thanks for coming to my SUNRISE SUNSET 2009 fundraising page.
Sunrise Sunset 2009 was a mass sailing event on Sunday 3 May to raise money for cancer research, education & support. It was run by a new charity called Windsurfing4CancerResearch, of which I am a founder member and trustee. You can read more about W4CR below left or at www.windsurfing4cancerresearch.org
The idea of the event was to get as many windsurfers, kitesurfers and other sailors sponsored and on the water on the day. The main event was at Hayling Island but there were satellite events at 20 other locations around the country and in Europe. At many venues sailors took to the water at sunrise (5:30am) as a show of commitment to the cause (and perhaps because they are a bit balmy!). I was one of the 20 or so to do this at Hayling. It was tremendous to know that people at so many other venues were doing the same! The water was COLD but the sun shone later on in the day. The Hayling event was opened by the Mayor and featured on BBC South that evening. Well over 200 sailors took part altogether and some sailed almost continuously from sunrise to sunset (about 15 hours)! Take a look at the event website www.sunrisesunset.ws
