Thank you for visiting my dog sledding fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online as it all goes to very worthy cause.
My mission is to dog sled for one week from our base camp into the wilds of the Norwegian Lapland (no time for Santa spotting) in the middle of the dark, icy and cold January. We are aiming to cover hundreds of kilometres in temperatures that will regularly drop below -30 Celsius.
I know what you’re thinking; this is a nice easy ride with the dogs doing all the work but in fact; for most of time I’ll be running along side the dogs, pushing and pulling the sled up and down hills and over the rough terrain (it’s not all nice and flat and the dogs are very lazy) for periods of up to 8 hours a day in some very cold and harsh weather conditions. To achieve this I need to get very fit (no more fish & chips) and I’m now working my way through a 6 month fitness regime that will hopefully get me through the week (did I mention that it’s in the middle of winter and it’s going to be very cold).
This odyssey of ice and teamwork between man and dog will prove the ultimate challenge for me mentally and physically but more importantly it also allows me to support and highlight a great cause, which means a lot to me.
I, like many people, associated lung disease with smokers and older people. However when my 5-year-old niece was diagnosed with a rare chronic lung disease, I realised that children are susceptible too.
Understanding lung disease in children, developing successful treatments and arriving at a prognosis are areas that are currently under-researched. Today many children such as my niece, are often dependent on additional oxygen during the day or night. This has a significant impact on their quality of life and on their ability to grow up as a normal child.
The area of paediatric lung disease needs your help. Your gift to the British Lung Foundation will make a difference as it may fund vital research projects and help the doctors to understand how to combat serious lung disease.
100% of you contribution will be going to the charity as I’ll be picking up all the costs of the actual expedition. Any amount that you can give will be greatly appreciated as this is an excellent charity that helps so many people across the country.
Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: British Lung Foundation will receive your money faster and, if you are a taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you.
Many thanks for all your support.
