Hello and thanks for visiting my fundraising page,

On July 1 I will be setting off on a preposterous journey from John O’Groats toLand’s End. I'll be cruising the length of the country on my trusty Raleigh all-steel 1960's, racing green, three gears, nice and clean old bobby's bicycle.

On my perilous journey I intend to pass through the islands of Jura,IslayandArran, though I can’t be expected to cycle on water – after all not even Jesus managed that. The whole trip should take about three weeks and I’m sure there will be some tough times ahead.

At the age of nineteen, tipsy after a few pints of Guinness, I placed a small ten bob wager down on one day completing this epic journey wearing a tired old tweed jacket and top hat. It's taken me eight long years to buy a train ticket up to John O'Groats. During this time I've come to the decision that a top hat probably wouldn't be the best choice, so instead, I've opted for the more streamlined design of a bowler hat.

The naysayers claim that neither my vintage bike nor my wizened sinuous body will be able to cope with such a demanding challenge. I’m ready to prove them all wrong.

I will be joined by my good friend Andy Haimes on the first leg of the journey, from John O'Groats toLiverpool. Unfortunately (or fortunately for him) he has booked a ticket for the 'Pentangle' gig at the Philharmonic on July 14th, so he won't be able to make the second leg. I'm sure I will find it difficult to continue at this point, having rested for one day in the comfort of my own bed, but alas, I will continue alone.

If you’re worried about my fate, rest assured I will be attempting to keep you all informed of my progress with photos and maybe the odd little ditty posted on some kind of new-fangled website. So please give generously because MacMillan Cancer Support is a great cause and I could well perish on this absurd misadventure.

Thanks,

Alan

P.S -  I’m still looking for that bowler hat so If anybody's got a spare, great! I'll be ten quid up.
