.... Update on 23rd June .. Mission accomplished!

Back in the UK now having run the race last Thursday and
finishing in 10:09:24 officially for 5456th place ... how depressing is that!! My time from when I crossed the line was 10:03:44.

The race was very much harder than I could ever have imagined and despite taking it comparitively slowly for the first half, the down hill sections during the second half hammered my legs into submission well before the end. In comparison to this, London is a stroll in the park!! I think we became aware of just how tough it was going to be when we took a coach trip along the route to see what was in store. The hills are relentless and if you are not going up you are going down with very little flat until you finish in Durban.

Will I do it again? Well never say never as the pain is soon forgotten, but the atmosphere and enormity of the race linger for very much longer. Perhaps next time I will treat the race with the respect it deserves.
My partner in crime Jeremy also finished and like me hurt over the final few km. Thanks again to all of you who kindly sponsored me. ...... Thank you for visiting my fundraising page. Please dig deep and sponsor me online. The Comrades is a 56 mile headbang, but what better way to celebrate turning 50 last year!! It won't be easy, but hopefully the experience will be good. This year is the "down" run ... so if I make this one I may just have to go back and sample the "up" run another year!! Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Alzheimer's Society will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. So please sponsor me now! Many thanks for your support.
